Professor Anandajit Goswami is a Director at Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences (FBSS), Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS). He obtained his PhD in Energy Economics and Policy from TERI School of Advanced Studies and Masters in International Trade and Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He was also a Ford Foundation Scholar which was earned through a merit based entrance and relative grade based semester system. In the past he has also worked with TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) and TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI-SAS). At TERI SAS, he taught several courses like Art and Sustainability, Economics of Sustainability, Mathematics for Sustainability for eight years. At TERI, he led projects supported by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UKAID, Asian Development Bank in the areas of trade and sustainable development, macroeconomic implications of taxes and subsidies on fossil fuels, economic growth and its implications on energy demand and supply, economic modelling, energy policy and modelling and economics of sustainability. He was also based in United Nations Economic Cooperation for Africa, Addis Ababa as a part of South South Collaboration initiatives of TERI during 2007 - 2009 supported by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
He has extensively been involved with Atomic Energy Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Indian Railways and has advised them in several important policy decisions through his research work and projects. He has led an India - Africa forum at WTO supported by International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development in Geneva. He has also worked as a leading consultant to Niti Aayog, UNIDO, Copenhagen Consensus Centre, WWF India, WWF Uganda and has advised the Government of Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh in various state level energy policy making for future. He has an extensive work experience of working nd advising different state and central government regimes in India and Africa. He has published extensively for the most reputed journals like Energy Policy, Safety Science, International Journal for Energy Sector Management in the domain of energy policy making, energy risk and safety modelling and has 32 peer reviewed journal publications listed either in Web of Science or Scopus or UGC Care. He is a part of International and Indian Society of Ecological Economics and has also contributed to the work of IPCC which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
He has authored two reference books on Sustainability Science published from Pennsylvania which are widely used as reference books in universities of USA, Europe and in one of the Economics Department of JNU. He has authored five popular fiction books covering domains of science fiction, sustainability, gender rights, crime, social drama and has been awarded the third best author of India in the Digital Literary Award of 2020 by Literary Insight and Literary Mirror. He has also been chosen as the Best Author of 2021 by Literary Insight and Literary Mirror for his book –"Lucy 3 : Lucy and The Rise of The Parabola”. The Book Review, India's first book review journal in English, which started in 1976 and the Indian popular print and digital media showcased his "Lucy Series" as a novel work in the field of children science fiction and sustainability literature genre. He has worked in the film industry of Kolkata and in the group theatre circuit of Kolkata, New Delhi. He has been involved as jury members in numerous music, art, film festivals in India, abroad and his music based story telling for short films was showcased as a part of Kolkata International Film Festival in 2007. He has worked with Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan in a cross country music project as a lyricist, assistant musician and production manager. His work, compositions on music and sustainability issues are showcased through his YouTube and Sound-Cloud channel and are disseminated as a voice in different sustainability movements across the world through - World Sustainable Development Forum (based in Washington), Extinction Rebellion, and Fridays for Future.
As a musician and singer he started working as a child artist in ad jingles in Kolkata following his 10 years of Classical Vocal training in Allahabad Gharana and extensive training on the work, music and life of Tagore for six years. He runs his ownblog - geekonomistdiary.blogspot.com and has been recognised by Indian Human Rights association for his selfless service and betterment of the society of India along with WWF for his involvement for certain animal rights protection and CRY for his contribution to child rights protection. He is also an Ambassador of the NADA Foundation for the Anti-Tobacco Campaign. Prof. Goswami is a visiting fellow at the Ashoka Centre for People Centric Energy Transition, Ashoka University and a Research Director at the Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies.
